Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

What an unholy piece of junk! If you like it, try this: download Windows Media Player (version 9) on Mac OS X and try to open it with Expander. In just minutes, the fun begins! First, Expander won't open it ("Preparing...") and then if you dare to hit "stop" (as you'll be tempted to do after, say, the first hour) Expander shows off its real capabilities by displaying a delightful blue candy stripe and switching to "Canceling". Enjoy the command-option-esc feature of your Mac and merrily wipe Stuffit off the map!
Think .bin files are an obscure bit of hoo haa, no biggie if Expander can't handle it? For additional entertainment, download the *full* trial version of StuffIt and double click on DropStuff. Sure, you're not really supposed to do that, but take a dare in the name of science! Watch as your Mac is magically turned into a wimpering pile of goo. Watch as hundreds of Expander and DropStuff processes launch and die each minute! Gather the family and friends to see you curse as you manually power down your machine to avert a disaster!
For more fun, try to contact tech support. Realize you can't because you don't have a serial number. For even more fun and frustration, *buy* a piece of software that just assaulted your Mac so you can tell tech support how much it stinks. Then try to get your money back! Fun for the whole family! Wow and amaze your friends! But only if they're idiots!

Ha, this is funny. I am having exactly the same problem with exactly the same file (the WMP install .bin file). Who is to blame: Microsoft, SmithMicro/Allume, or...?

It just so happens that I'm currently setting up a brand new MacBook Pro and had just downloaded the Windows Media Player 9 installer and got the "sitx" file. Darn. So I came to VT, searched for "Stuffit Expander" and clicked on the [Download Now] link. I was expecting to be redirected to a page where I'd have to submit my email address before I could get the software, but it downloaded it immediately. Yay!

So, then I double-clicked the WMP "sitx" file and, er, it just worked.

I'm of the opinion that "fschipizky1" needs to carry out some maintenance on his/her machine...

I have a solution!

While version 11 crashes when extracting Media Player 9.0 version 10 does not. Version 10 of expander can be downloaded from the link above.

Good luck!

As for maintenance - tried that and it didn't work.

same issue here, not with WMP but with ".hqx" files. Expander stays for 2 hours ('m a patient guy) "preparing" to expand the file withour any result.

Not other solution to "Kill" the application.

Why would you want to put anything that MS makes into a perfectly good Mac?
