How to back out?

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: WesGaige Friday, September 29 2006 @ 10:48 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

So I installed the update. Now my MacBook Pro 17" won't boot off the internal HD. I get the black box error. I can boot off my external backup drive.

I downloaded the Combo 10.4.7 and Combo 10.4.8. 10.4.7 would not install because it thinks 10.4.8 is there. I installed the 10.4.8 combo again and still have the same problem.

How can I make the drive so I can install 10.4.7? Can I delete something? Can I get the disks that came with the Mac to install the original OS version?

HELP!!!

Try this:
- option boot and select your internal HD
- boot from the original DVD that cam with tour computer and select DiskUtility and repair disk

If the above fails, from the original disks you have the option to restore previous OS

You can use your installation discs to start over with whatever version of 10.4 your MacBook started with. On another computer, go to Mac Help and get the instructions for "Archive and Install." Be sure and check the option to preserve all your curent program settings, mail messages, etc.
