For more info (and links), I went to Apple's Article 304200.<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304200>
Before installation, I ran Disk Utility/Repair Permissions, TechTool Pro 4.5.1, and DiskWarrior 3.0.3 to assure that my OS was healthy. Then I ran System Preferences/Software Update to move up from OS 10.4.7 to 10.4.8. After the mandatory re-start, Disk Utility found no problems.
The installation and all software operations since have gone smoothly on a Dual G5 2.0.
Because OS 10.4.8 contains all the recent security updates and so many OS improvements of this and earlier versions, I also downloaded, just in case I ever wish to re-install Tiger again.
Respectfully, Norm
