I have never understood the gripes about Acquisition.
Maybe I am doing something different then some of the more advanced users. I launch the software, it connects, I do my searches, it downloads usually what I am looking for and never has given me anything but reliable functionality.
Added the fact the developer has rolled out at least 10 newer versions since I purchased Acquisition at no charge.
