Their apps seems to work fine, at least after a week, but I just learned I could have paid less, not have had to install and waste space for XP, yet still use the couple of XP apps I need for work.
Im talking CROSSOVER X-on WINE. THAT is the way to go.
You can install MS Frontpage, Visual Basic.Net, or MSIE 6 even PC-centric games on your Mac-at native speeds-with NO WINDOWS XP WITHIN 100 MILES OF YOUR MAC!
And its only going to get better.
As for Parallels-be careful-they sneak into your shopping cart a "service" by default-that you pay for, unless you 'opt out', so that if you are not paying close attention-you end up buying it. (some nonsense about storing your very own copy of Parallels safe and secure on their server-forever!) These guys are insane.
And they have the gall to charge sales tax to every state, even thought they reside in VA, and VA only.
Their logic is that their Paypal-type e-service (in MN) has a presence in WA, (which I doubt) therefore they can charge me WA state sales tax.
Pure Cr*p.
I bought it from them, via download in VA, not Paypal.
Unless they actually OWN the e-service-there is no connection-and no LEGAL way for them to collect taxes, unless you reside in VA.
They didnt respond to several emails UNTIL I told them I would submit this info to the WA & VA state Depts of Revenue, and damn! if I didnt have an answer back within 10 minutes! WOW!
With their phony convoluted 'story'.
ONE star for their treating their customers with contempt.

Beware of these guys...they are sneaky. - gordonbyrnes_dotmac
Oh please. Crossover/Wine has *very* limited compatibility, and is completely impossible to use in a production environment where you have to reliably run complex Windows applications. At this point, WINE on OS X is little more than a gimmick. Having also used the supposedly far more developed WINE on Windows with similarly disappointing results, I'm not convinced it will every be a viable solution. How about rating the software based on how well it actually works instead of comparing it to a far less functional piece of software simply because you like the concept better?

How are they being "sneaky?" - kbrackley
And by your useless advice you claim Parallels is sneaky? Please. Crossover looks nice, but its only just now in beta, and I have yet to see a client get IE or Frontpage to install and run properly on the current beta for OS X.VMware will have their OS X product in beta soon, but until then, I'm happy with the performance and support I've received from Parallels.

Not at all my experience - billmatthews
Assuming you're not somehow affiliated with the good folks at Crossover, it sounds like you caught someone at Parallels on a bad day. My experience with the Parallels staff has been exemplary. I was a part of the beta testing and my concerns were always addressed propmptly and thoroughly. I wasn't charged for anything other than the software I asked for, and the price was very reasonable for the feature set that Desktop provides.Crossover doesn't support any of the apps I need, so I can't say how well it works, but currently, Parallels is the best solution I've used for those last few esoteric Windows apps I still need.
