Yesterday, OSXvnc worked like a charm. Today, with no configuration changes .. "The server clsoed the connection."
I rely on remote access in my job as a network administrator. I can't stand having to spend more time troubleshooting my tools than the problems I'm supposed to be using those tools to fix. In this case, I can't even get it to work, even though nothing has changed since yesterday when I connected no problem. This has cost me a whole night and a trip into the office, only to find that OSXvnc simply doesn't feel like allowing me to connect... for no reason I can tell, after hours of trying. When it decides it's doesn't want to let you connect, you'd best find some other way to spend your time, because you are NOT going to win. No amount of reconfiguration, trying from other machines, restarting, portscans, etc. are going to reveal the problem... it's simply buggy software. I'm sick of dealing with this.

Or try "Share My Desktop", which has never failed me yet in hundreds of hours logged.Thursday, November 02 2006 @ 06:28 PM PST
Works very reliably - JonathanOSX
We and hundreds of other companies use this consistently and on a daily basis. If you were unable to connect I'm sure there was a very good explanation and based on your description it was probably a network problem that was completely unrelated to OSXvnc. Feel free to post your questions to our support forum at http://www.redstonesoftware.com/phpBB2"Share My Desktop" is actually just an AppleScript wrapper of OSXvnc's embedded vnc server.

Turn on display sharing - mjsickel_
I had this problem for a while, until I realized that if the connection was broken rather then being quit, the server thought the client was still attached, so wouldn't let another client connect. The solution is to select "Let clients decide" or "Always share display" from the Sharing tab on the prefs: this way it doesn't care if it still thinks the old instance was still connected.

Don't complain, VNC is free - artful38
VNC is freeware, so you kinda get what you pay for. It obviously works "good enough" for most people. If you need rock-solid reliability, shell out some cash for a commercial product like Timbuktu Pro.Reply to This
