This monster eat huge memory. With a "blank" word document, NeoOffice consumes 105MB of real memory and 759MB of virtual memory. MS word consumes 67MB of real memory and 350MB of virtual memory. If you open an "blank" spreadsheet or presentation documents, NeoOffice eat about 30MB of real memory per "blank" document. It doesn't look good. :(

I do know what OS X means by "amount of virtual memory" and interestingly enough, it's both much more accurate than most other operating systems and still a lie. As the first commenter wrote, unless you're an OS engineer you'll never understand what this really means, and unless you've studied how OS X accounts for memory, applying knowledge gained on other systems will mislead you.Friday, September 29 2006 @ 08:21 PM PDT

I have been using NeoOffice since 2003, I guess, when in alpha stage, and posted my bug or enhancement reports. If you have ideas or suggestions, you should post them. Current version is a great step ahead. Basic OO is slow indeed, and NeoOffice Aqua is slower than MS Office, but is – I think – entirely reliable, and may be currently used in many instances. For free. If this detail is not relevant, I would add that there is a HUGE amount of work in getting closer and closer to a great application, and developers should be congratulated for their terrific effort.Sunday, September 03 2006 @ 01:18 PM PDT

Please do the world a favour: whenever you see the words "Virtual Memory" slowly repeat the phrase "I have no idea what is meant by that and so will refrain from posting messages containing those words".Thanks. [Clue: the "amount of virtual memory consumed" is meaningless.]
