Over the years, I have spent much money on MYOB and much time in looking for its replacement, so I consider myself something of a expert on this topic. MacBusiness comes very close to providing a comprehensive answer to the needs of self employed and small businesses. Its strength is an excellent integration with Apple's own iCal and address book. It has modules for those who wish to manage products, services accounts and contacts. There is a bonus under the tools menu that includes currency and date conversion. The invoices and other documents are customisable with little effort. Full range of reports are available.
Whilst it is not perfect (nothing is !), MacBusiness is distinguished by a remarkably helpful developer who responded to a support request on a Sunday to resolve a minor issue. For this alone the software deserves to be downloaded on the computer of anyone requiring an accounting package. Even the famous House of Windows with its army of techies, is not prepared to support its over-priced office suite the way that the developer of MacBusiness is.
I must say that the comment/criticism in an earlier post giving this programme one star is in my opinion, undeserved, misleading and unfair. This completely undeserved and misrepresents the numerous strengths of MacBusiness.

No harm in giving Mac Business a spin. You may find that the invoice and correspondence templates are not as refined and professional looking as in MYOB, but the rest of the functionality is excellent at a basic level.
Two additional questions you have to ask: 1. What is the data you require for tax purposes / accountant and which software gives it to you in the easiest way. 2. How paranoid do you feel about the fact that even though you are a fully paid up MYOB registered user, periodically a window will pop up on your screen asking that you re-register your software to continue using it. To me the support and staff at MYOB appear to be only interested in the business they can get from you in the future and NOT the money they have got from you in the past.
Nothing is perfect ! Whatever fits your requirement based on your free trial period. The cost of MacBusiness is low enough to be written off against experience. Please post back with your comments.
