I usually don't leave a review of a porgram unless there's some sort of constructive c riticism to give. I' rarely leave something simply because I'm impressed.

This thing is SERIOUSLY WEIRD. Right now it's followed "Ruben Remus" by The Band, and old '60s-style classic rock tune, with "Red Chair Fade away" (early Bee Gess psychedlia), followed by "I Bleed" by Homer (sort of grunge-y pop) followed by "Halo Of Flies" by Alice Cooper, and the whole thing WORKS as a mixtape. Also on the same list are Police song, a Cornershop song, an Opal song.. Even though it sometimes pickes someting from a genre that doesn't look like it should belong, when the song comes up, it fits in sonically. Astounding.

This thing works. It's totally weird and totally great. I don't know how it makes its decisions but it really comes up with interesting mixes that are unexpected, and sometimes don't make intellectual sense, but make musical sense when I listen to them. How can a machine make a mix a human finds both interesting and relevant, but not repetitive and boring??? A list based on an old Sister Rosetta Tharpe song includes The Chieftains, Lightinin' Hopkins, The Band, Spooky Tooth and - believe it or not - a GG Allin (!!) song that actually fits the mix! ("Carmelita", if you must check it out to confirm this for yourself.) A mix based on a Skinny Puppy song, however, includes songs by Black Sabbath, Laibach, Gary Numan, Zappa, Amon Tobin, the Descendents. and one of Van Halen's later, more studio'ed-out songs. It also threw an Al Green song into that same mix - but one with a strong bass/snare rhythm. How does it do it?!?! I've only played with it for a few hours, but I put it through its paces, and I have yet to hear a song that sounds totally out of place.

This is like listening to a great, eclectic radio station, helping me discover all sorts of great stuff buried in the thousands of strange albums that mysteriously appeared on my hard drive over the last few months and were definitely legally purchased and ripped by me while sleepwalking and not pirated over the internet.

My big complaint? The free version loads up playlists with too many songs from the same artist. Uh-oh, might have to pay for this one. ;->

Slight complaints... I hit the "Tutorial" button on the analysis screen and get a blank help viewer, hence a lower rating for support/documentation. Also, the browser should show the Album in the song list. And you should be able to rate songs by stars like in iTunes, and maybe even respect iTunes's ratings, and only make playlists with songs you've marked as having a certain number of stars, etc.

Thanks for the comments! I'm not sure where the help went walking on your install, it should be here:

/Applications/MusicIP Mixer.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/MusicIP Mixer Help

"The browser should show the Album in the song list."

You can right-click on th header of the song list and add all sorts of columns, including album. Use drag and drop to resort them however you like.

"You should be able to rate songs by stars like in iTunes, and maybe even respect iTunes's ratings, and only make playlists with songs you've marked as having a certain number of stars, etc."

You can right-click on songs to rate them. If you sync with iTunes, the iTunes ratings are imported. The restrict playlists based on ratings, go to the Options/Exclusions tab, and create a filter excluding, for instance, songs rated with 1 or 2 stars.

We're working on some new documentation to help explain all the different features which can be a bit tricky to find.

I am glad I read this reply from the developer. I had no idea of some of the features you explained how to do. Like this: You can right-click on th header of the song list and add all sorts of columns, including album. Use drag and drop to resort them however you like.

Also, There is no help files in this app. If you click help it says help isn't available for musicIP Mixer. The path that you listed that is supposed to lead to the help file is not there. Only the actual application is there.

Pull down your Help menu - dreamcore

Pull down your Help menu when you are running the app.

(The path he gave you leads into the application package itself.)
