Existing users, 
I realise it's not hugely important, but it frustrates me that I can't see smilies. Even the default msn ones don't show on my conversation screen. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do about it?

you know i really don't think that there is much that can be done most of the time they shut down certain items so that they can update them or do something else with them i would just wait and see if the problem clears up on its own or just try redoing the entire thing sometimes a certain file doesn't install correctly and it might help uninstalling msn messenger and reinstalling it that may helpSunday, September 10 2006 @ 12:13 PM PDT

I had this exact problem I'd been faffing over it for days I uninstalled it I installed it I upgraded I downgraded nothing worked.I tried to find the advice here 5 mins ago and my boyfriend turns around and goes "have you turned it off in the options" I said "of course not"
But it was... and I don't know how.
When you are on a conversation with somebody go into the tools menu and check that the option saying "Show smilies" is ticked. That solved my problem.

Smilies don't show or show part of the time and webcam doesn't work or works part of the time - biznek
I know just how u feel mine works only part of the time and only then can i get some of them to show up.I know just how frustrating it is for the items that should work not to work it is just like me with my webcam and Yahoo & MSN messengers sometimes my webcam works one place and not the other and other times it work in the other place and not the one it worked at before and sometimes it doesn't work at all and it is very frustratingCan anyone help us with these problems?
