iSnip development on hold

Feedback Type:  Developer Note

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Unspecified

iSnip development has currently been put on hold.
Yes, the site has expired.
Yes our paypal donation account has been discontinued and we are currently not accepting donations.
No, we will not share the source.
Yes, we may possibly make an iSnip 2 as a universal binary.

Currently (as far as I know), all plans to release a new version of iSnip are on hold until August of 2007, which is when I return from being a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Until then, you'll just have to keep thinking of ways we can improve iSnip, then tell us in about a year.

iSnip development on hold - Smop

iSnip was a good software utility. I donated 15 bucks and I've been using it for one year. But now that you've decided to turn your back to the "real world" to join a bunch of dangerous lunatics, you can go to hell pal. Religion kills.

That's unfortunate. At the very least, release a universal binary. This is one app that's hard to live without. Anyway, good luck and I guess see you in 2007.

Few utilities earn -- or so rightly deserve -- a five-star rating. I use iSnip several times a day and dread the hassle of being without it.

I respect the author's right to decide his own priorities -- i.e., whether to develop iSnip or to pursue his own personal commitments. Frankly, I believe that he has done more good for more people through this gift to the Mac community than could be accomplished from years of missionary work. Still, I recognize that he might not agree.

I'm very happy with iSnip and desire no new features. Still, I'd like to know whether iSnip is likely to break when the new Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) is introduced this year.

I'd actually delay upgrading for a few months if a new version of iSnip is needed, as long as the author has committed to ensuring that iSnip continues to work with the next generation of the Mac OS.

(We really should be asking why the iSnip features have not yet been integrated into the Mac OS.)

Just switch to PTHPasteboard: I didn't like it at first but since I found how easy it is to customize I think it's better than iSnip. I won't be switching back.

Hopefully you will soon be back and able to devote some time to iSnip, which I use all the time, even on my MacBook Pro since my TiBook died. The *only* thing missing for me, now, is access via keyboard. The new Tiger "status items in the menu bar" keyboard shortcut opens all the other items there, AirPort, Bluetooth, keyboard layout, etc., just not iSnip, which I imagine may be a function of its lacking some code compatible with Tiger and/or Intel. I for one would be happy to pay for an updated iSnip, if you make it shareware, or even donationware as before. Thank you for iSnip as it stands, in any case. In OS 8-9 I used John Holder's QuickScrap just as often, but he has not updated it to OSX.
