Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: NO

Thought I might offer this tip to any other users with this OS/mouse combo...

Bought a BT Mighty Mouse this week. Works fine.

Randomly today, I noticed Front Row (hack-enabled on my G5 Quad) was no longer working.

Tried to reinstall Front Row. Upon reboot, all I got was a flashing blue screen. Nothing, and I mean nothing would let me boot into Tiger...repaired permissions, repaired disk, deleted prefs via Single User Mode. Couldn't boot into Safe Mode.

Finally I used my Powerbook, booting the G5 into firewire mode and deleted the Front Row app., replaced /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/ and /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/with the current versions from the 10.4.7 combo updater via Pacifist. That let me finally get back into Tiger.

Once back in though, my BT Mighty Mouse no longer had a right click. I reinstalled the MM software and everything was fine.

Just for kicks, I tried a fresh install of Front Row again...same deal. Same blue screen, same Mighty Mouse problem.

SOOOO....I'm wondering, since others seem to have no issue installing Front Row on 10.4.7 if there's not some issue with the BT Mighty Mouse drivers conflicting with Front Row.

My advice to anyone considering using Andrew Escobar's Front Row enabler on a non-Front Row Mac and who happens to have a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse to hold off until more people chime in on this potential problem.

Odd problems with 10.4.7 and Bluetooth Mighty Mouse - alska

Hi,

This confirms my suspicion... Had the same problem, also running Mac OS X 10.4.7 with a bluetooth mighty mouse and also had the front row being disbled after install of 10.4.7 and wireless mighty mouse driver. Same behaviour... So people with same environment, BEWARE! In my case, I had to reinstall the system!

I have exactly the same problem with Front Row

BT Mighty Mouse + macosx 10.4.7 + Andrew Escobar's Front Row Installation
do not work together.

Odd problems with 10.4.7 and Bluetooth Mighty Mouse - davesens

Same problem confirmed here! Just got my BT Mighty Mouse this morning (they were a little slower shipping them out to us Canadians), and just happened to notice that Front Row wouldn't launch after. I was about to go ahead and re-run the Enabler, but I'm glad I did a quick check around the forums first! Thanks for the warning!

Odd problems with 10.4.7 and Bluetooth Mighty Mouse - Joey2

I have the exact same problem on a dual PowerMac G5. On the initial install of Front Row 1.2.2 with version 10.4.7 of the OS with the BT Mighty Mouse software from the install disc, I received the flashing blue screen with the circular timer. I assumed it was user error for not following the instructions from AndrewEscobar site carefully enough. I reinstalled the OS and the latest patches since I didn't have a bootable machine and my symptoms did not match the ones listed under the troubleshooting section of the page. I attempted the Front Row installation again and this time it was successful. When the OS was reinstalled, I assumed that the latest patches would have include latest software for the BT Mighty Mouse. It appears that it was not complete because the Keyboard & Mouse section in the System Preferences did not display the mouse in the Bluetooth panel. From my recollection, the mouse worked fine it just wasn't recognized as a Bluetooth mouse and the battery level was not displayed. To remedy the problem, I reinstalled the the BT Mighty Mouse software. Now, Front Row was missing from the Keyboard Shortcuts section. I reinstalled Front Row and got the flashing blue screen. I recoved by reinstalling the BezelServices (framework & loginPlugin) by login in single user mode and unzipping a backup(with Escobar modifications) I had made of the two directories (See AndrewEscobar FrontRow Troubleshooting section). Having a bootable machine I was able to revert to the virgin copies of the BezelServices by using Pacifist on the 10.4.7 Combo Update. And, now was able to install Front Row but my BT Migthy Mouse left and right click does not perform any operation.

Until a solution is found, I have two options: uninstall Front Row and use the BT Mighty Mouse, or use a corded mouse with Front Row.
