A very happy user of StickyBrain for years, I was forced to upgrade to SOHO after the StickyBrain database wouldn't open in Tiger. That's where the problems started. SOME of the issues I've encountered in the weeks since include:
SOHO failed to find or open the StickyBrain database as claimd by Chronos.
I retrieved my own backup of the database, but again SOHO would not recognise it. There are countless references to similar issues on the Chronos support forum.
You have to wait for Chronos to OK your registration to join their support forum. In my case this took 24 hours.
I found no proper solution to my problem on their support pages even though there were many references to similar issues. Chronos want you to pay for email or phone support. I paid for support and have waited 48-72 hours on three serparate occasions for responses.
They eventaully fixed my database and got SOHO to recognise it. I installed the database and found that MY ENTIRE ADDRESS BOOK AND iCAL DATA HAD BEEN DELETED! Stilll waiting to hear back on how I can retrieve this data, if at all.
This is all really scary stuff. I'm disappointed but philosophical about a good product going down the toilet, but THIS NEW ABILITY TO DESTROY DATA IN TOALLY SEPERATE APPLICATIONS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.
This incident has highlighted serious structural issues also noted by other reviewers of this product. Chronos has created a program designed to contain crucial documents, notes, passwords, even bank details etc. All the data is contained in a proprietary database format. You can't access these files except through Chronos products. IF CHRONOS FAILS TO SUPPORT THE PRODUCT PROPERLY OR CEASES TO EXIST, YOU CAN LOSE YOUR DATA. You can also lose data in other crucial applications as well, as I have. Support response time, particularly considering the importance of the data SOHO notes is designed to contain, is very poor.
Of course I have everything backed up. All the stuffing around has wasted many hours of my timealready. I don't have time to wait the weeks it has taken to sort this out with Chronos, so I've uninstalled the entire product forever and restored iCal and Address Book from my own backups. Such a shame. Goodbye StickyBrain!
