Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: YES

Not sure why other reviewers feel the need to slam the freeware with disparaging comments. It is what it is, a minimalistic web-kit app designed to allow you to interact only with Google Calendar. When people say "I don't see the need", they don't understand how easy it is to open Safari or Firefox to use Google Calendar, and get sucked in to a time hole by getting sidetracked.

I love this app for just what it is, and use it every day. It's also priced just right! I'd love to see synch and some other functionality, but for the release version it's at, it's perfect.

No one is slamming any one's efforts for the sake of it. Reviews are meant to be just that.

I am entitled to my opinion of the software and you yours. Just because i disagree with you, you think I'm bashing a developer?

This is my reasoning:

Feature-wise, this is no different than simply dragging a bookmark somewhere and double-clicking on it.

Functionally, it is worse as it is much slower and buggier than Safari. Clicking on links within the app just didn't even work for me.

Programmatically, there is minimal skill involved as multiple languages offer the web page display as a built-in feature. This is just that but with only 1 site available.

Just because it's free does not mean that suddenly features are worth more and bugs worth less.

Disparaging comments? WTF? Have you seen the product web site? This is a quote splashed at the top of the page:
"I offer absolutely no support for Gcal.app. Support requests are ignored. Also, please do not send me feature requests."

stam, you are right. After reading your post, you are just as entitled to your opinion as I am mine. I apologize for trying to take you to task for your review. You make valid points. I'll continue to use/enjoy the program, and hope the developer keeps working on it to improve it for those of use who do like it.

"Clicking on links within the app just didn't even work for me."

That's intentional - a feature, not a bug.

FIrst off, it's an open-source project. Not a "product". Thus, I don't *need* to offer support.

At least I contribute /something/.

The point being that the way it's put it appears rather rude - and you reap what you sow...

Plus, do you realise that with Leopard, this will become completely obsolete with the new widget builder thingy?

And where the f*ck do you get off with this "at least i contribute something" - why do you assume I don't contribute to opensource projects?

You're better off spending your energy creating somehting useful rather than pissing about on versiontracker

No need for rude comments. The developer is generously contributing, free-of-charge, something quite specific for users of Google Cal who need a simplified interface to access their calendars on a Mac. Gcal fills the gap where Google and iCal don't meet - entirely without cost to the end-user. (Spanning Sync, which is not freeware, is another alternative.)

Thanks to the developer for sharing his time and energy in a useful and intelligent way.
