Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

The claim that Apple Mail does not save multiple messages is not true. If you select multiple messages and the menu command Save As, Mail will save a .rtfd document (in practice a directory) containing all the messages and the attachments, and can be opened with SimpleText.

The claim is not true - mattblackman

Thanks for the tip! Nothing against freeware developers, but I'll always choose a built-in feature over a 3rd-party applescript.

You're correct, in that you CAN save emails in RTF format and it will clump them all together in a single file. However, I dislike thumbing through the RTF looking for the message I want. By saving the files as individual text files, I can zip through the file names (which are the subject lines) and find what I'm after faster.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Export Messages is not intended to be a solution for all cases. It is provided in the hope that others may find it useful as I do.
