If this had even minimal password security (no encryption) I'd buy it in an instant. I love the interface, the attention to detail but with my content being wide open to anyone who happens to onto my computer; I can't use it.

You're missing the point. I said "basic" not some tedious logging in/out just to get a cup of coffee in the kitchen; and I'm not one of those security freaks that wants to lock down my files with blowfish bla, bla, bla...
