Java no thanks

Feedback Type:  Usage Tip

Contributed by: dclayton@uiuc.edu Friday, July 14 2006 @ 02:08 PM PDT

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Have Not Tried

Java based? Forget this. I might as well just go and run a non Javabased bit torrent program designed for G3 on a 68040 processor cause it would probably go faster. Who in there right mind would program with such a slow thing. I hate Java.

Java no thanks - warped9

Some of us got tired of being p0wn3d by buffer overflows, spyware, and all the other crap that come with Windows.

Having a client that runs on any OS is useful.

In addition, the Azureus programmers seem to be able to spend more time adding features like partial torrent download (only download the file you want rather than having to always download everything) rather than hunting memory and threading bugs. Hmmm, maybe there is something to this Java thing.

Go back to your little k1dd1e box and shut up.

Java no thanks - ATPTourFan_

Absolutely. Java does have its overhead, but it does also allow developers to concentrate on features delivery.

i'm glad they did it in java, or else it'd probably be available for windows only, as usual. sure i wish it was faster / easier on the CPU, but its features easily make up for that.

Grow up - kronswirl

I haven't found a better free program out there. Bittorrent sucks, Limewire quit finding the network on me for a year, Poisoned gets too few results, and mldonkey, yeah, best of luck! What's left are these freeware-not programs such as acqlite that are about as (in)effective as the parent programs that have been tested thoroughly. If it doesn't rank up there as #1, then it's in the top 25% of P2 clients, and most of the time Azureus is open, you don't see the Java slowness, because the client is busy downloading your file for you at regular speeds while you continue to troll software sites worldwide about your Java hatred. Keep it up; maybe they'll make you a fresh cup of decaf Java to keep your hair from standing straight up for a few hours.
