Why don't you just use system settings and secure screensaver with password?

Becuase those options interfere with programs like alarm clocks, they also rely on the machine being idle for the lock to appear. This program was designed to periodicly lock the screen and not interfer with any other programs.Monday, July 10 2006 @ 03:45 PM PDT

> they also rely on the machine being idle for the lock to appearWhy would you want to lock your computer if it's NOT idle i.e. you are using it? I would like my computer to lock after a longish period of inactivity (say 2 hours), requiring password entry, while still having the screen-saver kick in after a much shorter period of inactivity (say 5 minutes), without the need to enter a password.

ok so lets say a theif gets onto your computer, your method will mean the theif will have complete control for ever since the screen saver will never kick in until he leaves it idle.Auto-Lock is designed so even if a theif hops onto the machine it will lock the screen while they are using it.
