I was really looking forward to seeing if my 17" PowerBook (which has two finger scrolling) now also has two finger tap capability like the MacBook Pro - but it doesn't :-(

It's definitely NOT there. I have a 1.67GHz 17" Powerbook G4. Is your machine an Intel or PPC?

Not sure what you mean. Is this feature enabled for PPC PowerBooks? I have a 15" Hi-res 1.67GHz machine from November 2005, and there's no option under Trackpad for two-finger tap.
