Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I just wanted to mention a few things... The new version 1.1 no longer polls Mail.app for unread messages, but actually will be instantaneously updated when you recieve new mail or mark an existing message as unread. Hopefully this will fix the problems of the application not updating and when installing, since it is now a Mail plug-in.
And no, the menu item is not positionable by dragging as some other menu items are. It turns out that there are two different type of items: NSStatusItem and NSMenuExtra. NSStatusItem is how it is currently set up, and this does not permit dragging. NSMenuExtra does permit dragging, but it is a private framework, meaning that if I develop it this way, A: it is undocumented, and thus, harder to achieve, and B: it could become broken with any minor OS update released in the future. I will look into doing it this way, and seeing just how difficult it would be, but it might be set up this way in the future.
Thanks again for all of the feedback, and I hope everyone is pleased with version 1.1.

Version 1.1 Speed issue. - Evanitude
Thank you for your response to the feedback. Now some additional comments. This plug-in seems to slow Mail appreciably. Other users made the same observation. You don't acknowlege these remarks, validate them, or comment about something such as a fix. Can you address this issue?
Sincerely,
Dr. Evan Stark, Ph.D.
