I have tried the program for a feww weeks now; searching for emails is much better than in Mail.app. I am, however, rather dissatisfied with the speed of MailSteward: I get some 10 to 20 emails a day that are not spam. To add these to the index every few days takes some three to five hours (!), even when MS is the only process running on my G4 Powerbook with OS X 10.4.6. Not to mention the 2.5 days it too to create the first index of some 45,000 mail messages. Even starting the program is a slow process. I wish this would be improved in an otherwise fine program.

Slow - gslusher

You may have something wrong with your system. Do contact the developer--he's been very helpful to me. I routinely archive hundreds of emails at a time and it takes only a few minutes, though my iMac G4 is not that fast (1.25 gHz). Open the Activity Monitor and see what processes are running. Also, try turning off background applications, to see if there is some conflict.
