With this version of 3.5 of the software it is impossible to capture the video if at the Mac it is connected a Fire Wire disk. The software show the following message "This operation could not be completed as there is no video". If you disconnected the FW disk the software capture regularly the video. It is a very annoyng bug!!!   
System Info:PM G5 DP 2.0 GHz 2.5 RAM FW disk LaCie 250 GB

It's well-documented that certain camcorders have faulty FireWire implementations that require them to be the only devices on the bus. That's not FCE's fault.
