Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

Will there be a new release?

When Apple "borrowed" from the LiteSwitch interface they had every legal right to do so. However, if they kill a product in this manner, they should at minimum incorporate the full functionality of that product.

I too miss LiteSwitch. I fear that too many people are willing to settle for Apple's offering. It's akin to the argument for Windows. It's good enough, however, it's very frustrating for someone who is use to the elegance of the Mac OS. Similarly, Apple's switcher is extraordinarily frustrating for anyone use to the elegance of LiteSwitch.

While Apple makes a superior OS, it does not make superior utilities. What makes MacOS special are the myriad independently developed utilities and applications. Doing a half-ass job of copying the general functionality of a utility or application benefits no one and subtracts from the user experience.

If Proteron has ceased developing LiteSwitch (and MaxMenus), it will be a major loss to the OSX platform.

What do you mean by "I too miss LiteSwitch."? It hasn't gone anywhere, I still use it every day with 10.4.6 and it's still downloadable from Versiontracker and probably other places. I don't have any connection to Proteron other than as a customer, so I can only guess why there hasn't been an update in a while, but one reason could be that they don't know of any bugs in it and don't want to add features just to add features, which I applaud. I wish I didn't have to worry about constant bug fixes and feature bloat with the rest of the software I use!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Liteswitch is compatible with Core Duo macs.

I for one am not going to try a program that integrates into the OS before I get word from more adventuresome souls that it works. If it indeed lacks compatibility, I hope the developers update it for Intel Macs.
