If the ldap functionality built into address book works as it does with our Exchange Server, why would anyone need anything else?

LDAP - aMakUzr

That's easy ... you want/need AddressX if you want the Global Address List (GAL) entries to be sync'd to your phone or PDA or .Mac or whatever, because setting up the LDAP-based query will not get you there.

Having AddressX put the entries into the separate address group in your Address Book allows those entries to be sync'd by any Sync Services program (e.g., iSync plugin) that syncs the Address Book.

I find this to be very useful!

Of course there are also other common LDAP issues:

- setup by mere mortals is more than challenging

- often the LDAP service is rather slow via applications that integrate Address Book services (e.g., Mail, FAX software, etc.)

- often the service is not available via the Internet, so what does one do when travelling
