Can't install.

Feedback Type:  Commentary

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 6-12 months

I've been unable to install this update, even after several attempts. The installer always ends with the message "Please try installing again." Any other messages that may be displayed as part of the installation process are displayed and overwritten so quickly that I cannot see/read them.

I've tried both admin and non-admin accounts, no difference. I'm running 10.4.6 on a 1GHz PPC iMac.

I see the same thing. I wonder if it is because I have /Users on a separate mounted volume, rather than on the boot volume. Despite the installer at first claiming that it will put files under my home directory, it then offers to install them (only) on the boot volume. It should ask for authorisation at this point, but doesn't. Then it fails.

Command-line hackers or those with a copy of Pacifist may be able to install by hand.

I think there's an error in the installer. I'm unable to install it on my iBook (OSX 10.4.6) as well, and I found the following error in the installation protocol:

BomFileError 13: Permission denied - /private/tmp/Brian_Toth_Google_Maps//Library/Address Book Plug-Ins

Here's the solution (or at least what worked for me).

Delete the "Brian_Toth_Google_Maps" symlink in /tmp.

rm /tmp/Brian_Toth_Google_Maps

Then rerun it under an admin account. It HAS to be run as admin (the installer needs a little work).

Good luck.
