Why in God's name does anyone need all of these features just to write? If you're passionate about writing, sit down with a pen and paper like your ancestor's used to.

Why are you using a computer? Along with your pen, you can use snail mail instead of e-mail, and get your news from newspapers. Also, use lined paper instead of Excel.Thursday, June 15 2006 @ 11:16 AM PDT

Neal Stephenson writes his books using fountain pens, then transfers it to computer using emacs. He is definitely passionate about writing. But for me, a student who has to write papers every quarter, I hate our writing assignments, and Mellel gives me the tools to write a 6 page paper in 2 sittings. Once I setup the paragraph style the way I like it (double spacing, hyphenation, justification, orphans & widows) then I don't have to worry about anything while I write; it lets me focus on the content and does not get in the way.
I was such a word processor newbie before using Mellel - I did not even know what an orphan or a widow were! Now I have been using school breaks to download trial versions of all the word processors out there, and I find Mellel to be the best for me (and cheaper than the others too).
Maybe you could elaborate on what parts you find complicated? That would be helpful for those deciding on whether they wish to buy this software.
cheers
