Well I paid for this ripoff. I was so desparate for a PC emulator I was willing to try anything, even at the risk of throwing money away, which it turns out I did.

This is basically the Bochs PC emulator with a little custom wrapping, if you want to see how this will perform, you can get Bochs for free.

If you want to run Dos programs, DosBOX often does the job and is also free.

I also have GuestPC, which is quite reasonably priced, and works okay with DOS or Win95 on a G4 PPC. This is a proper application developed from the ground up, and whilst performance and features are nothing spectacular, it does indeed work pretty well. I could not get it to run Windows NT, and I didn't even want to try XP, but there are a lot of current programs that will still run on Win98. This is a worthy effort from a small developer.

I recently got Virtual PC with MS Office 2004, since it was on a special and I basically got Virtual PC free. I was pleasently surpriesed that XP Pro runs fine, not lightening fast but definetly usable. Performance with XP Pro in VPC is about equivalent to Win98 on GuestPC.

So there are at least 4 alternatives to buying this program.

If you want a balance between price and performance and can live with Win98 (and indeed have a copy you can use), and are willing to lose some features, I can recommend GuestPC. If you have a little extra cash, Virtual PC is definetly worth the extra, with features such as state saving and pausing which means you can have a windows session ready to go anytime without tying down your CPU.

But stay away from this software and this company
