I just don't think there's a good reason why this application requires an installer, and I especially find it disconcerting when an application like this REQUIRES my admin account password in order to install. Not cool. I'll pass for now.

Hi, August here. I'm sorry to hear you don't like the installer. The reason I use one is because of permissions problems on OS X that in the past stopped Mr. Tides from running. The installer gets around most of these problems. The reason I ask for the admin password is to create a support folder in the ~/Library/Application Support folder. Application Support is a protected area and I can't just create the folder there. The password request is perfectly safe, it's coming from the installer and all it does is verify that you have admin privileges. The installer, an Apple utility, uses Apple's Security Services calls and it's all internal to the installer. I never ever see the password.
I'm hoping in v3 to have a drag and drop installation, as v3 is being rewritten in XCode (not RealBasic), and the permission issue on the index files won't occur (it's a RealBasic access problem, you see).
If you have any issues with Mr. Tides, feel free to email me and I'll help.
August

Good grief, I would be surprised if an application did NOT have such requirements! See the author's comments and then admit you made a foolish comment?Brian

I believe, and this is just me, that your screen name may best represent your abilities with your computer, this software, and your credentials for rating the needs of an installer.Reply to This
