This is why piracy is rampant. What is the point of buying the software if the company assumes you are a thief?

30-day trial period - stoneman
The thing's got a 30-day trial period, including for upgraders. No need to spend your cash on the first day of the new version's appearance. And St Claire is good about fixing things pretty quickly.Saturday, May 13 2006 @ 03:44 AM PDT

Contact St Clair and let them know u r having a problem. St Clair's customer service is one of the best in the industry. I am sure they will resolve your serial problem immediately.Default Folder is a great utility.

In terms of modeling excellent communication skills, I think it's always important to come onto sites like this and lash out with exaggerated rants and "see why I pirate?" logic any time something goes wrong with software upgrades.Given the severity of the error, I think stclairsoft owes Brass Hammer a $500 rebate and a free trip to Hawaii.

I believe this is rather an unfair and even rude way of addressing a company that has developed one of the best products ever for Macintosh. Default Folder has been around since the early years of Macintosh advent and its developer has always been very friendly and responsive to all issues. It's a very reliable and useful program and I'm sure many of serious Mac-users can't even live without it. I therefore don't understand why someone should publish such a negative comment and praise piracy before giving himself the trouble to bring the matter to the author's attention! I’m not praising piracy at all. I am pointing out that the company make it very difficult to upgrade their program because they are more interested in their own pockets than their customers. They assume we are pirates. Why not just give us a new registration code instead of making us jump through a bunch of hoops with “push this button to upgrade,” “log into this site,” “enter this information to upgrade,“ crap. The reason one buys software is to get something for it. If the company won’t provide service, or merely a serial number that works, why buy it? I have no doubt that I could find someone who would give me a serial number, crack, etc. Instead, I am sitting on my hands waiting for the company to get back to me, which they have, as of this post, still failed to do. Where are they?I also suspect that when they finally do get around to responding, I will have to throw out this file, enter this information, call this phone number, wait on hold, send in my registration code, etc, all because this great company you speak of assumes I am a thief trying to chisel them out of 35 bucks!
Perhaps you are a shill for this company, I don’t know. But I do know this. I purchased this “software” two days ago and so far I have been treated poorly. Stop telling me how great they are. So far, they suck.

I agree. They really are driving people to applications like Serialbox. Just today I downloaded iVideomail and iVoiceMail updates. The iVideomail is not working and no reply from support. Also, they only claim that I paid for the Video one and not the Voice one. I paid real money for both. So now I'm forced to look elsewhere, cause I ain't payin again for something that doesn't even work right. They spend more time in trying to protect against the few people that might get it for free instead of making it work. If you notice the flood of updates lately, a lot of it is to keep up with cracked serial numbers. That's why a lot of the apps you have to put your original serial in that you paid for cause it knows them out. They are loosing business that way and the people that get it free, still get it free. I guess they will just have to cross the boarder and root out those terrorist. Those bad people that get things for free.Wednesday, July 19 2006 @ 07:34 PM PDT

To reinstall previous version that worked before you upgraded you will want to remove all traces of 3.0. Search for "Default Folder" and "DefaultFolder" (note lack of space) and "stclair" and get rid of those preferences and preference panes. Restart. You should then be able to reinstall your old version with old serial number if that is your wish.
You may also e-mail admin@stclairsoft.com with a description of your problem. I have found them very helpful at resolving problems.
