Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Recommend Product: YES

as it is being discussed on some audio-specialized sites/forums, logic pro could NOT use the full horsepower of the quad machines, unless you are setting up a local logic node. version 7.2.1 did NOT fix this peculiar restriction.

still not optimized for PowerMac G5 Quad - Dru2

That's right Logic Pro does not use more than a maximum of 50% of the power of each cpu core on quad G5 machines. It is fixed for the mac pro's here but not the G5s purchases of which are technically, ahem, stiffed on this one. Yes that's right everyone and isn't it just an absolute sad shame. here is a link to a thread from the apple forum on the matter (they have deleted all such references and threads sadly.)

It is a commercial disgrace and nothing short of a rip off for Quad G5 owners who use their machine to run Logic Pro (don't worry if you use it for other things) - it means that you could have saved money and bought a 2.7 dual G5 at the time of purchase and actually gotten marginally better performance from that cheaper machine.

It should be pointed out as well that the node "fix" as it is described is NOT a "fix" it is a workaround, applicable to *some* users, but I assume, mostly not. It does not work for buses, auxilliary channels or master channels, only audio or instrument tracks and ONLY works for logic plug ins, and not exs24. If you want to run something like orchestral software, you cannot use it. Effectively Logic Pro runs in "crippled" mode on Quad G5's unless you only use logic plug ins, where the node might help you to get pretty much full use of the hardware you paid for in good faith.

It's a shame and a disgrace. VERY disappointed previously big appe proponent...

still not optimized for PowerMac G5 Quad - marc82

Using Logic 7.2.2, I created a Logic song with 64 tracks playing back the same Apple Loop. On each of those tracks, i put a Space Designer reverb (default patch). My MacPro 3Ghz Dual Core plays it back, barely.

Today, updated to Logic 7.2.3 and played back the same Logic song and had EXACTLY the same performance. So where is the added optimization and use of all cores? I expected some perf improvement, but got NONE.
