I am assuming that this update is the culprit, but went back to 505 twice and this update took away 2 of the apps both times and left the rest crippled ... as in they don't power up. I had to uninstall the left-over junk and do a full re-install.

Whoa! - tankknight

Finally found the right combination of searches at Chronos website. They have like a 10 page forum post that eventually has Apple Final Cut Pro as the culprit for my headache. I removed the audio plug-in that FCP installs and as they suggest I don't need and all works again!
