why they went to a Windows-type version numbering system...?
Seems like 1.5.3 would be just fine...

(1+1/2).0.3 - siriusfox1

This is really just a way of saying one and one half insted of going to two. Don't ask me why, but the next generation will be 2.x.x. 1.5.x.x is just a transtion from 1.x.x. to 2.x.x.

So, I wonder - Uncle Asad

The wacky versioning is to make extension authors happy. The third digit is about API compatibility now; as long as fixing security and stability bugs does not require breaking APIs, the browser will remain 1.5.0.x and extensions should continue to work throughout the security/stability releases. If fixing a security/stability bug requires MoCo to break an API, they rev the third digit, making the next release, e.g., 1.5.1 instead of 1.5.0.4, which disables extensions since they might rely on the API that was broken.
