Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Over One Year

Recommend Product: YES

I've used Retrospect for several years now, and every so often I look around for something better. This is usually when I've got sick of Retrospect launching two instances of itself which then fight each other to do the backups, or when it refuses to quit when the backup window is over. Sadly I've not found anything that quite comes close to what Retrospect offers.

I did try BRU Server but the interface is hopelessly poor, so gave up on that.

I would dearly love for a company to write a truly kickass backup utility that can do network backups, incremental backups and snapshots.

How hard can that be?

It's a pity Apple haven't picked up this ball.

Retrospect is actually quite a kick butt product. It's just their user interface that really needs some work. But after so many years of asking them for a cleaner GUI, I get the feeling they aren't interested in improving it. Sort of "if the current GUI doesn't make sense to you, you're not the segment of the market we're looking to sell to."

I loved them while I used them, but I was always nervous about mucking things up. Finally switched to SuperDuper.

I use Personal Backup X4 from http://www.intego.com. It not only does a regular backup, backups from selected folders etc. but; most important to me, it does a clone bootable backup of your entire disk.
