This is amazing. I'm using a MacBook Pro and windows XP is booting up in about 8-9 seconds. It is by far faster to shut down the virtual machine and reboot than use the suspend/restore option. Amazing.
I can start MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Explorer, Project and Visio ready-and-loaded including all the mouse clicks in less than 5 seconds. I have never, ever used a PC with anything approaching this kind of blazing performance.
Amazing.
Alas, it's beta software and as with most beta software, it has some severe limitations.
1. recognizing devices/volumes is a major pain in the but and some less advanced users may never get past this hurdle
2. Host and guest OS cannot at present easily to share compatible (FAT32) volumes. This means you have to get the network stuff sorted out to FTP or SMB/mount a volume in order to exchange data between the two worlds.
3. Bugs: I despise the fact that when I slap the lid closed on my MacBook expecting it to sleep, Parallels kills OSX 10.4.6 instantly and completely. Not cool.
4. Will be nice to get all those little things like sound drivers, usb device suppot etc...
Many thanks Gents at Parallels for the most exciting breakthrough on the Mac/Win problem in years!
If you invest in ironing out the bugs and add the key features that appear to already be on your roadmap... WOW!

Wow. - Jeff Mincey
It sounds to me as though there is so much more work remaining to be done that this release is more alpha than beta -- and that it especially should not yet be a public beta. But it does look most promising all the same, as you indicate.Reply to This
