When I downloaded Open Office for a Mac i was directed to "Neo Office" which is what i use now. Is this version of open Office any different?

Open Office for Mac the same as Neo Office? - myamid

Yes. OpenOffice is the direct port of the linux version which requires X11 to run, making it much less convenient, user friendly and "Mac like" than normal apps. NeoOffice on the other hand is more in the line of a Mac "Adaptation" of OpenOffice. It's based on the same source code, but tweaked to remove some of the Linux dependencies & to "Aquafy" the interface. Of the two, Neo Office is definatly more easy to work with unless you're a hardcore Linux geek...

Unlike Neo Office, you require X11 to run this program. <br/>Neo Office runs "out of the box" on Mac OS X - no extra installation required

The OpenOffice project are now developing a Aqua version, watch http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/ for more information.

In my mind, if allowed to have mind, I think that NeoOffice should be the ONLY version for MAC OS X, and efforts should be concentrated in getting a better and better Aqua version of OpenOffice under the name NeoOffice (Aqua). Using X11 for an office app is inconvenient from many reasons, whereas NeoOffice (Aqua now) makes it entirely reliable and usable in real environment.
