Doesn't do much but link to Southwest

Feedback Type:  Review

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

Recommend Product: YES

I thought that this would have settings for letting me know when a fare became available but it only seems to link to the Southwest web site. There are no preferences. It does send general sales announcements that you use to connect to the web site. Not real useful but I guess it does what it says it does. Crashes on quit.

Doesn't do much but link to Southwest - Mayhem!

Umm, hello?!? CAN YOU PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING OR USING SOFTWARE AND THEN BASHING IT?!?? PLEASE!?!?!?

If you had read the description, you would know that DING! is an application that alerts you to *VERY SPECIAL, VERY LOW* fares that are not available to people without DING!

Since you won't or can't read, let me break it down for you - You have a limited time to get DING! fares, and the DING! application is what alerts you (and allows you to access) them being available. It's a very neat concept and you the best deals possible on Southwest. Seriously, next time read exactly what you're getting before having your own expectations and putting down something that actually does WHAT IT SAYS.

I, for one, am very glad they made a Mac version (as I had to use my friends Windows machine to check for the DING! fares)

And finally, it's impressive that they made an OS X version. In case you forgot, we're a very small percentage of overall computer owners (read: eyeballs for $$$$) and I for one am grateful they gave us a version of DING!

Doesn't do much but link to Southwest - stavia

Yes, that's what it does. But the *implementation* is poor. Mac owners have reasonable expectations for basic things in an application. Ding! installs itself into login items without asking permission. It has no preferences of ANY kind. I, for one, would like to hide its Dock icon, and I can't. It does not allow copying and pasting, so if you have to register more than once, you can't even paste in your Rapid Rewards number. The window is huge, and not resizable. Even with so few menu items, there are duplicates. This program does what it says, yes, but it feels less like a Mac application than a bad port of a Windows one. I'm looking forward to version 2.

Doesn't do much but link to Southwest - Mayhem!

stavia - now THAT'S a worthy review. There are lots of issues and you nailed most of them right on the head, but the original poster (and now there's another) pointed out things the app doesn't CLAIM to do, and that's just silly. All DING! is really intended for is alerting you for special DING! fares and nothing more. But, your points of the bad programming/UI are valid and that's what I expect to see in reviews - not demands of features the program never promised. In that case, make it a comment and don't give the product a bad review (not saying you did, but the other reviewers) rating when you're bashing it because of things you WISH it did.

It's easy to turn off the automatic startup -- Control-click on the Dock icon and uncheck "Open At Login".
