I don't have an Intel Mac, but this utility sounds incredible! Here's a suggestion, i hope the developer can include it in a future version - How about also adding the ability to boot from an os9 installation?

Interestingly, you are still trying to OS 9 which is a legacy OS by now.By the way, OS 9 works only on PowerPC platforms....so no go for Intel.
This rEFI thingy to load up boot loaders for EFI (non-bios) based motherboards such as used in the Intel Macs.
This will not allow older Os built for the PowerPC Platform and motherboards.

Ptrix, this app allows operating systems that were already written to run on Intel processors, but required BIOS support, to run on Apple's Intel based Macs. OS 9 was never released for Intel based computers, so it would require a complete recompilation of the operating system. I'm afraid there is little hope of any third party developer accomplishing what you propose. If you're lucky, perhaps someday someone will release an emulator that approximates the Classic environment on PPC based Macs, but I'm not holding my breath.Monday, April 24 2006 @ 01:31 PM PDT

As others have noted, this won't work due to Mac OS 9.x and earlier not having the ability to operate on the Intel processors found in the newest Macs. For those who want to run their older apps on the new Intel Macs, you can try one of the updated emulators that run Mac OS 9.x and earlier. Take a look at SheepShaver (http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:sheepshaver) or Basilisk II (http://www.gibix.net/dokuwiki/en:projects:basilisk2). Mini vMac should also be mentioned (http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/beta/index.html).
You have to boot into Mac OS X first before you can run any of the above emulators.

I doubt there's any chance of that. Even if you could get the boot loader to execute OS 9, OS 9 wouldn't have the faintest idea how to send instructions to an x86 CPU.Reply to This
