a SONOGRAM is an ULTRASOUND (Ultra High Frequency sound) that is used in Medicine and some Industrial applications!
What they are doing is a AUDIOGRAM, sound that is meant for humans to HEAR, as in greek - Aural (hearing)!!
This has been going on for YEARS and I commented this same thing three years ago! If you used the RIGHT name, people just might understand WHAT you are doing!

What a shame that a quibble over this program's name might put off some potential users. This self-appointed expert (blueskymining) has a point that, in common usage, the ultrasonogram is now, more often, referred to as a sonogram. But, the more correct term for this program (get ready all you pedants out there) is "spectrogram," and in days gone by this had been known as a “voiceprint.” And, for the record, there is no implicit or explicit reference to the ultrasonic frequency domain in the term "sonogram."While there is a lot of incorrect information available on the Internet, I’ll recommend the definition below (from Answers.com) as more correct than the one submitted by the acerbic and uncharitable "blueskymining."
And, it is true that this program is not as Mac-like as one might hope, it is a technically solid piece of acoustics analysis software.
From what I can glean from the developer's web site, he is a native German, and considering the strong technical merits of this free program, I think I'll cut him a little slack with the English language.
spectrogram
The spectrogram is the result of calculating the frequency spectrum of windowed frames of a compound signal. It is a three-dimensional plot of the energy of the frequency content of a signal as it changes over time.
Spectrograms are used to identify phonetic sounds, to analyse the cries of animals, and in the fields of music, sonar/radar, speech processing, etc. A spectrogram can also be called a spectral waterfall, sonogram, voiceprint, or voicegram. The instrument that generates a spectrogram is called a sonograph.

The person who posted the original comment is the only dope I can see 'round here. "Sonagram" or "Sonogram" has been in common usage since the Kay Sona-Graph was released onto the market in 1951. The recordings produced by this machine were termed sonagrams, the alternative spelling being sonograms. The output of this piece of software, Sonogram, is the digital equivalent of a sonagram.Thursday, May 17 2007 @ 12:43 AM PDT
