Do not install on Intel Macs!

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: Kevin Poole Tuesday, March 14 2006 @ 09:56 AM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: Less than a month

As others may have already mentioned, all current downloadable versions of Flash Player will *overwrite* the pre-release Universal Binary version installed on Intel Macs, making it impossible to view Flash-enabled sites, unless you force Safari to run in Rosetta. The only way to restore the UB version is to extract and install it from the Apple install disc(s) using Pacifist . Macromedia really needs to make this fact clear by putting a warning in the non-UB installer!

Do not install on Intel Macs! - Dave Yost

A warning? They should make the installer refuse to install on an Intel Mac.

Flip4Mac refuses to install on Intel Macs, and so should this. Adobe/Macromedia is taking a really sloppy approach here... I lost my UB of Flash on my MacBook Pro, and now I have to figure out some workaround to get it back? Nice...

Unfortunately I had to find out the worse way on my iMac Intel. However, after running Safari under Rosetta, I have recovered the Flash visual capabilities, but not the sound. I really would appreciate any help with this, since now I seem to be so close.

Anybodly have a link to the "how-to" to extract and replace the PPC Flash plug-in with the UB version? I have Pcifist, but where should I look on the OS X discs that came with my MacBook Pro?

Re-starting Safari with Rosetta checked restores the visual part of Flash, but not the sound. Anyone know how to get the sound part going? Or a best way to get Flash to behave normal again?

To get the sound working again: Very Weird, but simple. Open the Aplication Garageband and produce some sound with for instance the piano. Close the app and the sound of your flash player is back again. (I run safari in Rosetta mode)
Its a strange bug fixer, but it worked for me.
