I’ve been trying out this software for a day or so now and I really like it. Up to now I’ve been using JBidWatch which I’ve found to be simple and reliable.

Two factors sway me towards Auction Hunter. It’s written in Cocoa rather than Java which gives it a nicer, more Mac-like interface. And it’s more fully featured. The built-in search facility is seriously useful, particularly the ability to keep an eye on one’s favourite sellers.

I’ll probably buy Auction Hunter when it comes out of beta but how could it be improved? Well, good as the search facility is, I’d love the flexibility offered by AuctionSieve, in particular the ability to search in multiple specific sub-categories and to use filters to prioritise and hide defined items (including those already viewed).

Good as the interface is, I’d like it even more if it let me manually mark items as viewed or unviewed along the lines that Apple Mail does with messages. And it would be great if Auction Hunter’s interface were more configurable – I’d particularly like to be able to change the font size and perhaps even the font.
