I have been using this program since v1. Yes, I agree, the interface of v2 is completely different that 1.x version. I was surprised and frustrated at first. Then, being a software engineer for the consumer market for nearly 20 years now, I took a second look at the redesign. Rule #1, in GUI design - Make it user friendly and understandable to the point of no need for documentation at all. In this regard I think this developer has hit the bull's eye of this philosophy. It has basically been transformed from a single screen, overloaded with options that many user have no concept of, and turned into a wizard type interface - step 1, pick the type of copy you want to make; step 2. - choose your source materials; step 3. - choose compression quality, soundtracks, verify that correct source materials have been chosen; step 4. - set output type (file set, etc and even burn direct from the app - for those without Toast); step 5. - (for file set output type) choose destination. What could be easier than that. In my opinion and experience, these guy have made a much more appealing and easier to use and understand than it's earlier versions.
Also, give up all the *censored*ing about upgrade cost and costs in general. If any of you are also using MacTheRipper or similar apps in conjunction with DVD2OneX, and I know that vast numbers of you are - give it up. This small $50 US has saved you thousands and you know it.
This developer has made a solid app that has done nothing but get better and more stable. All issues are always addressed as demonstrated by the many version revs seen over that last couple of years. Take it from me, software development is no easy feat. It take long hard hours of blood, sweat and tears. And, then to have the masses complaining with little or no credible reasons, makes it all the more difficult.
Bottom line, Use it if you like it. Pay for it if you use it. And if this product doesn't do it for you, find another and shut the hell up.
This program rocks and nothing else does what it does any better or quicker. This is A++++ programming work. 2 big thumbs up!

"without the need to navigate through 5 different screens for something"You do not have to do this!!!!!!!!!!!
ONCE SET YOUR COMPRESSION SETTINGS
SET THE PREFS TO YOURS (def audio, def subt, burn option etc)
AND ITS A 2 STEP ACTION
1 SELECT MODE AND CHOOSE SOURCE (and watch the overview screen if its what you want)
2 HIT THE GO BUTTON
(3 insert a writable disk ;-) )

With your attitude you must be related to the developer. Or maybe you are him?Friday, March 10 2006 @ 12:19 PM PST

I had been using version 1.4.2. I was going to upgrade to version2 but with my purchase of Toast7 and it now having a compression tool built in with the advent of the 'DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS', feature, I don't need to spend anything more for a compression application. The point is maybe if we give poor ratings, they'll understand that there's a problem here, and make it BETTER. Sure, Movie Only mode is not too bad now, and the argument could be made that it's more intuitive. The problem is that the used the same interface for Full Disc mode, which should be extremely simple, without the need to navigate through 5 different screens for something I could do in a few clicks before. The new interface WASTES MY TIME. To piss off your experienced users just to maybe seem more straightforward to newbies is POOR DESIGN!!! There can be a happy middle ground, where the interface is intuitive AND efficient. They really need to address this issue. Functionally, DTOX is great, but the interface is pure distilled ass.Reply to This
