I have read the many posts about this problems, and the solution, is such exits, demands the uninstall of Quicktime.
The problem is that I CANNOT UNINSTALL QUICKTIME: the uninstallation of iTunes does not remove quicktime, and amazingly, it cannot be removed through the "add/remove programs" of the control panel. I just click the "remove" and nothing happens.
So - iTunes is not working right now, Quicktime won't uninstall, and I am depressed.

This is the second time I've had the same problem with Quicktime. And to make matters worse, when I try to access the Apple site for support, IE crashes. So.... I can't uninstall it, I can't re-install it. I can't repair it, my registry cleaner can't clean it, I an unable to get on some websites and I can't view my videos from my digital camera.FYI: The last time this happened I called Apple on the phone and the tech was extremely annoyed that I called(after all, I was not a paying customer). She ended up walking me through a fix, which required playing with the registry. But the fix was short-lived.
I just want it off my computer and I'll get a Quicktime Alternative.

So here I am, three months later, and with the same problem as the other posters. Evidently no one has solved this problem yet? Note that start->programs->quicktime->quicktime uninstall does not work. The control panel uninstall doesn't work. Re-installing quicktime doesn't work. Re-installing itunes+quicktime doesn't work. Does anyone knowledgeable monitor this help site?Wednesday, August 16 2006 @ 07:20 PM PDT

I have the same exact problem! I know everyone is responding with the standard, "go to the quicktime folder in the start menu", but it doesn't work.It won't uninstall...period. The iTunes Installer can't remove it, the new ver. of Quicktime Installer can't, and neither can the Control Panel Add/Remove section.
I, too, am without iTunes right now. Has no one figured this out?

Excellent! This work perfectly. I had troubles to install iTunes because they don't recognise my old "QuickTime.msi" file. Downloading this Microsoft Installer CleanUp Utility from "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/" I find out it is an effective software and was very easy to install the new iTunes with the new QuickTime. Thank You!!!Wednesday, November 29 2006 @ 12:32 AM PST

I have the exact same problem. iTunes has been of no help yet, giving me the same old run-around solution of simply uninstalling both iTunes and Quicktime. It DOESN'T work. Has anyone found out HOW to uninstall Quicktime?Monday, September 18 2006 @ 02:40 PM PDT

I bought the new Movie iPod over the weekend but couldn't install the new iTunes 7.0 to save my life. I tried EVERYTHING....Quicktime is where I had the most problems...none of these solutions have worked for me and have only created more problems. I returned the iPod...now I CANNOT get QuickTime to uninstall after trying EVERYTHING listed on this board. I'm ready to condemn my once beloved iTunes...does anyone have any suggestions for me? I drew the conclusion that the issue must be w/my computer...Monday, October 02 2006 @ 07:37 PM PDT

ok, to uninstall quicktime,1. start menu -> all programs -> quicktime -> quicktime player
2. in the quicktime player menu (file edit view window help)
go to help, then click on "about quicktime player"
3. look at the quicktime version.
4. find or download (http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_player.htm) the installed setup version.
5. in windowsXP open the "C:\Documents and Settings\youraccount\Local Settings\Temp" folder, where youraccount is the account you login in winxp.
6. start the setup "quicktimeinstaller.exe or something like that BUT DO NOT CLICK NEXT. The setup will extract everything in a folder into the temp folder, so go to the folder previously openned and look for a new folder if you cannot see it press F5 to refresh the folder view.
7.copy all files approximatively 19 files. to another folder (make a new folder to your desktop and copy everything there)
8.cancel the quicktimeinstaller, do not try to install it will not work.
9. download the new one from apple.com
10. install it.
11. when it ask for the msi files, copy (to the clipboard) the folder name where the setup is looking for (ex._is67)
12. in the temp folder create a new folder and paste the name of the new folder (ex. _is67)
copy all the 19 files you put in the desktop folder created previously.
on the locate window from the quicktimeinstaller (the window that tell you that the installer cannot find the .msi file) click ok. That's it.
the quicktimeinstaller setup will remove your old quicktime and you'll have a new one.
all of this because you deleted the quicktime uninstaller program.
it took me 1 minutes to do, and 2 minutes to find out how to remove it.
If you follow everything it will work.

Having trouble starting Itunes? Getting a hint that Quicktime is the root of the problem? Cant re-install Itunes because of a Quicktime error? Cant remove Quicktime for some reason?Well I had that same problem. I spent a few hours dicking about trying to find a solution and then BAM I read about Windows Install Clean Up. It solves this nasty little proble and it takes like 2 minutes. I dumbed it down into 10 basic steps, and have included direct links,/u> for the... untechnical... : )
1. Download Windows Install Cleanup http://download.microsoft.com/download
2. Click 'Start' at the bottom lefthand corner of your screen.
3. Open the tab: 'All Programs'
4. Open 'Windows Install Clean Up'(it should be there)
5. Find Quicktime on the list of programs (if you can't find it keep looking, cuz its there); click it so that its highlighted in blue, then click the 'Remove' button
6. Click on any other programs that have Ipod or Itunes or Quicktime in the name, and Remove them as well.
7. Click 'Start' again, click on the 'Control Panel' tab. Click the 'Remove Programs' icon.
8. A list of programs will appear. Find Quicktime and anything referring to Quicktime, Itunes, or Ipod, and remove them.
9. Cleanout your recycle bin, restart your computer.
10. Re-install Itunes and Quicktime from www.apple.com/quicktime/download

I have the same problem. Whenever I try to open itune I got an error messenge "Newer version of quicktime needed". You don't need to uninstall the quicktime. Download the newest version here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.htmlInstall it and everything should go smoothly. Hope it helps.
