Sadly Skype is so close to being a really great piece of software but on the Mac with the latest System it's just too damn buggy.
The app crashes everytime I answer an incoming call and Skype say they know about the problem but for over six weeks nothing seems to be being done about it. When I looked at my support ticket it said no further action had been taken because the problem was solved. Well no it hasn't.
Sound quality on Skypeout is pretty bad and there is still no video support for Mac.
I'd say install it but if you have 10.4.4 or better then be prepared for annoying problems.

Not ready for Mac primetime - jolit
If you're suffering with Skype (like I used to), I hope you are aware and have tried the alternatives, especially the Gizmo Project, which seems the keep the Mac version ahead of others, for a change. It's a much younger project, so it may have its own problems, but as I have not noticed any, I would highly recommend it.Just an idea.
