Use this instead of Suitcase - ungeziefer

While I haven't yet tried the newest version of Suitcase ("Suitcase Fusion"), from what I've seen thus far I'd have to say that FontExplorer gives Suitcase a very strong run for its money. For right now I'd recommend using FontExplorer instead -- not only is it free (in Beta), but it's fast, hassle-free and straight-forward yet does everything you need it to. Saves all your fonts in one central location (if you so choose), which can be anywhere you like, so having a ton of fonts does not slow you down when starting up or logging in (unless, I suppose, you have every single font activated . . .).

It's stable. It works. It's great.

Am also using You Software's "YouControlFonts" -- another gem -- and had some issues with that; but if you heed the advice of the FontExplorer program and clear the "font caches," then log out and back in, all is well again.

I've been trying different font apps, trying to find the best one. And while it's frustrating (now that I've installed Suitcase, FontExplorer doesn't like that very much), on some level you have to be impressed with the Mac OS and these apps -- in that you can have FontBook and Suitcase and Font Explorer and YouControlFonts running at the same time, without a total meltdown . . .

Anyway, give this a try. You won't regret it.

(Also: I'm running OS 10.4.5 without any problems. Not using Quark 6.5, however, so can't vouch for compatibility on that.)
