Bugs in the H.264 PSP AVC encoding

Feedback Type:  Troubleshooting Report

Contributed by: Bongoloid Wednesday, February 22 2006 @ 04:49 PM PST

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

1: If you have spaces in the PSP movie name, the PSP cannot play back the file. This does not happen with the PSP Standard (non-AVC) encoding. The workaround is to use dashes or underscores instead of spaces.

2: ***Some*** movies encoded with the H.264 PSP AVC encoding, playback at random speeds. Video gets out of sync with audio, and video speeds up and stutters randomly. This varying speed problem is notcible even when playing back the encoded file on your Mac, so it is not a PSP playback issue. This problem also does not happen with the Standard (non-AVC) encoding.

3: The PSP atom data seems to be hard coded to display a frame size = 320x240, Video = 768kbps and Audio = 128kbps, no matter what you actually encode at.

Thanks for the effort!
