I think Apple's code adjusts its algorithm or something, because your widget's count is already about 7,000 songs too low. I have a feeling neither is destined to be a very good representation of how many songs are actually sold. Would be nice if yours worked, though, because Apple's count slows to a crawl as soon as the album covers start scrolling.

As intimated in the description, I basically stole Apple's code to make this widget, so it's going to be exactly as accurate as their pages. The difference you're seeing probably has to do with the difference between the time you reloaded the web page and the time you loaded the widget.How the script works is that it pulls info from the server once a minute and interpolates the values in-between.
You're absolutely right that neither is likely to be all that accurate in terms of winning valuable prizes.
