Hi, MainMenu users,
I am posting here to inform you that from version 2.0, MainMenu will be distributed as, unfortunately, shareware. ($10-$15)
There are several reasons for this, and I can not name them all. One of the reasons is about hosting. I often receive emails from users who can not download the latest release of MainMenu due to the web host (free) being down.
In addition, the bandwidth is sometimes (especially recently) used up before the end of the month. February 2006, the bandwidth was used up not even halfway through the month.
When MainMenu 2.0 is released, please do not see it as a "bait & switch". I originally intended for MM to be always free.
I can understand that a large percentage of users will not be happy with this decision, and I do not blame you. There are plenty of freeware apps similar to MainMenu you can look at. Some good ones are: OnyX, CLIX, Yasu, MacJanitor, rootMachine, Anacron, maintain1, sterMachine, the list goes on. All of these can be found here at VersionTracker (use the search function).
Please have a look at those.
I won't lie to you by saying MainMenu 2.0 will be a huge update from 1.5.x, justifying the need to pay for it. However, I'll put a lot of effort into this.
If you have any questions, complaints, suggestions, requests, anything at all, please either contact me via email, or reply to this "review thread".
Sincerely,
Rakka (15th February 2006)

I don't mind paying for this software at all. It's ironic that of all the maintenance utilities I tried on my iMac Core Duo, now running 10.4.5, this is the only one that works. Xupport, paid, quits constantly. Cocktail regularly comes back with Applescript errors as well as hanging up on repair permissions.By all means, I'll pay for this. I'm even willing to test your beta versions. (My intel iMac is not my main workstation, heh heh.) I only wish there was a way to specify which caches in each category to clean... e.g., internet caches except cookies and site icons.

Glad it works alright for you :) MainMenu was thoroughly tested on actual intel machines before the Univesal Binary was released.

All suggestions and feature requests are appreciated. It'll go in our to do list ;)
Many thanks again.

I do not consider it bait and switch, just underestimating your quality. I could not access your app as I have 1.4.5, and I could not get you due to band width. In newer versions could you explain what some of the actions are for. Like if it says clear browser cahce, tell me exactly what this does. Usually in a little yellow box that comes on when the pointer is drug over it. I'll pay your price if you can get this app on line soon.

DEAR BILLY RAYIM JUST RESPONDING TO YOUR MESSAGE ABOUT VERSION2. WHEN I SAW THAT YOUR BANDWIDTH WAS ALL USED UP I FIGURED YOU WOULD HAVE TO START CHARGING FOR IT AS YOU OBVIOUSLY SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND ENERGY CREATING AND UPDATING THIS GREAT BIT OF SOFTWARE, AND NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT TO PAY FOR THE HONOUR OF HAVING LOADS OF FOLK FREELOADING! I AM CERTAIN THE MAJORITY OF USERS WILL STAY WITH YOU. THANKS AGAIN FOR KEEPING MY MAC HAPPY.

Any way to get rid of all the ".DS_store" files it scatters about?Thursday, March 09 2006 @ 08:58 AM PST

MainMenu doesn't scatter them around :)You've used the "Show Invisibles" option, located in the Finder submenu.
You have to hide them, and they will not appear.
