for essentially nothing. Got the toast file, burnt it to DVD, but no go. VPC refuses to start from it, saying a "disk related error occured". No readme file or other documentation comes with it to assist in installation, and the original site is all italian. And worse: it is not helpful even if you know italian.

no problem with the time it took to download - that's how the torrents always are when there is only one seeder to begin with. I was really upset when it didn't work, as I assumed it can start/install from DVD. Ok, now that I know better I got it to run in a minute (no sound and networking yet, but otherwise fine). When I get everything working I'll start seeding your disk image, too.So, there is exactly one way t o get it to work.
1. download
2, mount in toast
3. drag the Kubuntu_510 somewhere (e.g. into the folder where VPC hold its disk images)
4. start by doubleclick
do NOT try to install it in any way from inside VPC as you would normally do for a new OS. Do NOT burn it to DVD for installation, it will not work (I assume it needs to write to the disk image, which, of course, it cannot do on a DVD)

If I mount it with Toast 7.0.2 (running under OS X 10.3.9)I get two disc images, both called Kubuntu_510.vpc7, both of which give the error "Item "" is used by Mac OS X and cannot be opened". I've tried cd'ing to the image and ls says there's something called Kubuntu_510.vpc7 but I can't cp or mv it anywhere.

Right, I connected to my main machine from a G3 iMac running Tiger via the Go menu and mounted the image with Toast 6.1.1.The image mounted correctly and was able to transfer the drive image back to the main box and it's loading (s.l.o.w.l.y) so all seems well. I'm presuming that the other successful users are also running Toast 7.X which leaves Panther as the most probable cause of my former woes.

I have to add that Kubuntu is darn slow under VPC. I'm running it on my 2.1GHz iMac with 1.5GB of RAM - it is much much slower than Debian runnning on my nine year old G3 Powermac (actually the G3 card in there is newer) with only 196MB of RAM. There, KDE and everything runs snappy (even though not really comparable with a new machine). So, I won't use Kubuntu on VPC, sorry.

hello, you have reason about our actual rate speed to download the image, sorry it's a our structural gap.. but i have info that torrent image are more fast than other files.
For other problem, i remember you that these are ONLY simple disk image and not professional software where yoy must know on deep feature and son: the FAQ are minimal also for this reason.
When you got complete download of toast image you will only reopen it with the master program (Toast) and then drag the original VPC file anywhere you want. Double click and anything should be works fine.
Send me a mail if you want received a free DVD support..
