I'm finishing my master's degree and started using Mellel last fall. There are a few things I'd like a bit more sophisticated, but overall, this is the best word processor I've found for writing papers. I set up my own APA stylesheet and it has made formatting ever so much easier. Unlike Word, Mellel doesn't override things or do quirky formatting I didn't want. And its integration with Bookends is very handy. The widow-orphan control was a huge improvement. I find it more predictable than Mariner or Word and more sophisticated than Nisus.
