Spellchecker?

Product Platform: MacOSX

Used Product For: 1-6 months

Spelling is a free service in OS X, so why the h3LL isn't it in Firefox? I post at discussion forums regularly and without spellcheck I'd look like a buffoon. So no Firefox for me, even though I like its other features and its speed.

I send this problem in as a bug report, but nobody seems to read it. Add spell checking capability and you've got yourself a nice browser.

Spellchecker? - APGiuliano

Lack of spell checking is not a bug, it is a feature and benefit. One would think the team would or could add it, as the SeaMonkey suite (and Mozilla) have Spell Checking in their e-mail portion...

Spellchecker? - MBuhmann

Why does one need a spellchecker in a web browser anyway?

MBuhmann - Think before you post! There are many many cases where a spell-checker is useful. Just one example is the very comment that you posted questioning the usefulness of a spell checker. You typed words into your browser for this comment which you might have mispelled or mistyped - the spellchecker would have flagged these up for you to correct.

I, too, find it aggravating that Firefox doesn't have spellchecking (sorry, I don't see how the *lack* of spellchecking can be a "feature"). Firefox, unlike Safari, isn't written in Cocoa and therefore cannot take advantage of certain Mac OS X features like access to the Mac OS X Services. I was going to say "use Camino, instead," since Camino is written in Cocoa (I believe), but I don't see access to spellchecking in Camino's Services menu (Camino > Services) or in the Edit menu, where you find it in Safari. Chalk one up for Safari.

Some people are just slow-witted... How the heck can a spellchecker not being included be considered a BUG...

If you hadn't already destroyed any bit of credibility that you might have had, you now just did it in an amazingly cretinous capacity right here.

You're the guy in line in front of me complaining about completely useless things, holding up my and everyone else's day(s): the guy everyone wants to sock right in the face...
